I always wondered why people would make a fuss about the complexion of others. I started realising just how important a role complexion and tone played in our society the moment I started dating outside my race. It was never from him, but always from other people. “You’re beautiful for a black girl” or “You’re beautiful for a dark skinned women” were often…
We live in an era where people are so quick to point fingers at another person and throw labels on that person and fail to look at our lives and point out the faults in it, as loudly as we do about the faults in the lives of others.
She was once so self destructive.
How a mere scar can make her travel so far back in time and pain.
It’s a scar. Nothing more. Nothing less. No story behind it..” Are the words she uttered when he asked her about the marks on her wrists.
He’d never noticed it before today but something about her spirit was undeniably intense and completely broken.
She had no way of telling him that the marks…

We live in a world where society deems the verbal slurs that women have to deal with as body shaming. Although curvier women have had to bear the brunt for most insults, the world shouldn’t assume that young women who are skinny have never had to deal with their fair share of cruelty for the way their body is structured.
Being skinny has not always…

What’s in a word? Obviously a lot as far as “nigger” is concerned. The media and politicians say “ban it” but how impossible is it to make the world’s most dangerous word disappear from existence? And do we really know what it means? Hakim Green of Channel Live fame walks us through this black word’s history, it’s etymology, and explains why this word will never go away, and why we should embrace and cherish rather than shun it. Also, Sean C. and L.V. talk their musical history and why we should cop their new album ‘Loud Dreams’ for only $Free Ninety Nine. My lips is like an oowop as I start to spray it.
Post with 1 note
I’m so tired of people telling others that men only cheat physically and that women cheat emotionally like we’re both from entirely different species.
I saw a conversation between two women on twitter, that stated that other women must stop speaking to and entertaining taken men, but if a woman is entertaining a man, solely because of the emotion she feels is she wrong? We’re taught to be so…

I have been shying away from highly controversial topics on this blog recently because I just couldn’t take the drama that naturally associates with it. But I keep hearing the story of Ryland, a child who was born a female, whose parents have transitioned her to male at 5 years old. You can see the full story HERE, but in short, because their…
I’ve heard so many explanations about what a soul mate is, I’ve had people explain it to me and I’ve often left with more questions than what I had before I spoke to them.
People make love seem like it’s supposed to be this constant uphill battle, like happiness is a lifetime war and that tears are an expectant part of it, but if love is so beautiful, why then do humans make it seem like it’s a…

Tanzania’s “Albino United” Football Team Draw Attention to Their Experiences Through Sport.
For many Albino’s living in Tanzania, a country where the number of albinos is believed to be higher than in any other nation, the threat of violence against them is a very real and often painful daily struggle. Due to unfounded superstitions about albinos, their body parts are often requested and used in various rituals by traditional doctors who operate in the black market. This deception has led to many gruesome killings of albinos. Many albinos are often forced to live in isolation by their families out of shame, ignorance or even sometimes as a way of protecting them.
Now, as part of an initiative spearheaded by the Albino Society in Tanzania, a group of men are challenging the dangerous stereotypes against albinos and are highlighting their experiences - and most importantly their humanity - through sport. The football team, called ‘Albino United’, has become a way for many albinos to re-enter society and find ways of expressing themselves and creating a vibrant community of albinos within greater Tanzanian society.
In one of the better produced VICE documentaries, we travel to the last absolute monarchy on the African continent - the Kingdom of Swaziland - to discover the processes and conditions of how what some call “the best ganja in the world” is grown.
A tiny landlocked country surrounded by South Africa on almost all sides (except to the east where it shares a border with Mozambique), Swaziland is home to some of the best marijuana in the world. This kind of cannabis goes by a unique name that both acknowledges its origins and quality - “Swazi Gold”.
Although the growing and cultivation of cannabis is not legal in the country, due to Swaziland’s dire economic situation, farmers - mostly older grandmothers seeking ways to provide for their families - have taken to growing this highly profitable crop. Unfortunately, because of the illicit nature of this industry, many farmers are often victims of crop theft or simply do not know how to penetrate the marijuana market.
In this two part documentary, we learn the history of the legendary Swazi Gold crop and see how it has impacted part of the Swazi agricultural, economic and social sectors.
